Weight Loss Supplements - Do They Work?Weight Loss ProductsWeight loss supplements or diet pills are becoming increasingly popular and promise you can lose weight almost magically by popping a pill. We all know that pills claiming to help you lose weight while you sleep or lose 10 pounds in 10 days cannot possibly work yet we spend billions each year purchasing diet pills, many of which are unregulated but promise weight loss. But is there any truth behind this, can dieting be something as simple as ordering your pills on the web? There is no magic diet pill Research has shown that there is no magic diet pill that can lead to quick and easy weight loss and in fact many of the "magic diet pills" on offer can have adverse affects on our health and indeed some can even be dangerous. Products containing Ephedra in particular should not be taken and even those claiming to be Ephedra free are not always safe. People should be aware that just because the product is labelled as a health product or food supplement it isn't necessarily safe to take. Products containing Ephedra are known for speeding up the heart rate, constricting blood vessels and causing heart palpitations. Many of the over the counter "magic pills" containing herbal ingredients can have Ephedra in them so be sure to check the label before spending your money. Most of the pills on offer recommend a calorie controlled diet to work alongside the pills, which is taking in fewer calories per day than consumed, along with a regular exercise plan. This is the crucial part in any weight loss programme, not the actual pills but the mere fact that you cut down on the amount of calories along with exercise. This would have happened of course even if you hadn't spent your money purchasing the pills. Meal replacement supplements Meal replacement supplements are different to "magic pills", meal replacement supplements work by giving up your normal daily meals and replacing them with milk shake meals, bars and soups, they are designed to include all the necessary vitamins and minerals that your body needs. But do these replacements actually work and if so how? How they work? This system of dieting does actually help you lose weight by helping the person to reduce the amount of calories they take in without the need for actually having to count the calories yourself for meals you eat. The packaged supplement once mixed with milk contains a set amount of calories per drink or bar. There are many popular brands to choose from and many different flavours and you simply replace normal meals with a drink or bar and then have a healthy meal containing around 600 calories or less for your main meal. They are perfectly safe to use and by law they must provide all the necessary nutrients your body needs. Meal replacement products normally contain around 200 to 400 calories per serving and must contain around 25% protein and contain 23 vitamins and minerals. Filed under: Weight Loss Products |
